Freeserve Site Redirecting To Wanadoo - 20 May 2004

Ian Turner 20/05/04

Following on from the take over of Freeserve by French company Wanadoo, the freeserve web site has now ceased to be a seperate entity.

This popular UK portal is now branded as a Wanadoo site and users see the new Wanadoo colour scheme and layout. The layout is little changed from that of the old freeserve site, and the search remains the same - Overture PPC, with Inktomi backfill.

Wanadoo are keeping up the relationship with Thomson Local, for the time being, with a tab on the search facility purely for Thomson search, which includes web finder results.

Whether the Wanadoo brand will go down well in the UK is yet to be seen, but with the new competition for broadband subscribers hotting up they will need to have a competitive product in order to keep and develop their customer base. The old days, of free dial up connections - the core Freeserve product, are definitely numbered as more people become familiar with high speed connections.
