Our worthy Prime Minister Mr Tony Blair is a first class example of living off the State.
His education was provided free at all levels including University, something he and his colleagues have denied the present generation and generations to come, if he and his cronies stay in power.
As a young solicitor I have no doubt both he, and his wife, took on cases that were paid for by legal aid, as is the case with many young solicitors starting their careers, which are of course funded by the Exchequer.
He was elected as Member of Parliament, and eventually rose to the rank of Prime Minister, with a tax free salary plus free travel and expenses at member level and as PM he also gets a free London home plus a small pad in the country called ‘Chequers’ fully staffed and victualled provided free.
When he retires or leaves office he will immediately receive his pension, he won’t have to wait for his sixty-fifth birthday, let alone his seventieth. Currently this would mean he would receive £89,461 per annum which is of course, as with all other Members of the House, is the result of a non contributory scheme, which unlike most other pension schemes is linked to the Retail Price Index, so as prices rise so will the pension for ever more.
When you stop and compare this to ordinary Means Tested Pensioners income of around £5,500 per annum you will fully appreciate who is living well off the State and who isn’t. No one said the world was fair, it never has been or never will be, but those who profess to make it a fairer place for all should live up to their promises and not off the sweat of other peoples brows. After all there are very few of us who could contemplate buying a house in Central London worth £3.5million.
